Linux is known as a good substitute for the Windows operating system and thats why consumers sometimes prefer the N900 as it has a open-source Linux. Now don’t worry, another type of device has arrived but rather uses Ubuntu which is now referred to as Mbuntu, its one of the N-series handsets. Its called the Nokia N8.

Mbuntu isn’t a operating system so the Symbian^3 OS is still alive and therefore not replaceable, it’s new user interface but in flash. There is only 1 way of getting Mbuntu, Ubuntu was modified as a desktop operating system to as an application which costs a hefty £3.00 from the Ovi Store.

Mbuntu for Symbian^3 OS

This emulator simply puts Ubuntu into Symbian just like you would install any other OS using the virtual box on the original computer Ubuntu. The applications menu features all the phone’s core applications such as: contacts, messages, Bluetooth, USB mode, Web, etc.

At the top right corner section there are indicators showing the WiFi and battery level.

The sad part is that in Mbuntu, you can’t customize anything, everything is locked. Furthermore, you can’t add any downloaded applications on Mbuntu or in other words, they are hidden and he process can’t be reversed.

Mbuntu landscape vision

Mbuntu is already available for Symbian^3 OS as a flash application but what if Windows 7 is available as another OS for the Nokia N8?

Lets find out tomorrow.
